INFORM monitors [some would say watch-dogs ] the permitting actions of the Mined Land Reclamation Board (MLRB); the Division of Mining, Reclamation, and Safety (DMRS); the Water Quality Control Commission (WQCC);the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the US Forest Service (US Forest). We do this to ensure a public presence at all agency hearings and rule making meetings, and to keep you apprized of the agencies actions.
Through our continuing participation,
we pledge
1) that the information necessary for public participation will be made readily available through our website and e’mails.
2) that public participation will occur in decision making process.
3) that the mining company’s voice will not be the only sound heard by our regulating agencies.
4) that public access to our wild areas is not prohibited because of the greed of a few multi-national mining corporations.
5) that responsible mining will be the ruling ideal for Colorado’s continued positive growth.

Progress Now Our mission is to provide a strong, credible voice in advancing progressive solutions
San Juan Citizens Alliance is a grass roots organization dedicated to social, economic and environmental justice in the San Juan Basin
Citizens are encouraged to participate in mining permitting; however, due to the number of governmental agencies involved and the myriad of regulations, that participation can be difficult. INFORM’s actions facilitate public participation in regulatory decision making processes. Thus, by empowering citizens we address a root cause of environmental destruction.
INFORM is a pragmatic organization that understands mining is necessary. However, we are not willing to allow shortsighted extractive industries to degrade our quality of life by using irresponsible mining practices. We will use all the tools available to us to ensure that responsible mining practices are followed. INFORM defines responsible mining as using the best available technology and practices for extracting resources, while neither destroying environmentally sensitive habitat nor harming communities.
