About Us

The Information Network for Responsible Mining (INFORM) is a Colorado-based nonprofit that educates the public about the impacts of hardrock mining and advocates for responsible mining practices.

Our Beginnings

Founded in 2001 by Coloradans seeking to strengthen public engagement in the state’s mine permitting process, the Information Network for Responsible Mining was created to unify and empower communities affected by mining across Colorado.

From the start, INFORM has served as the state’s only organization dedicated exclusively to monitoring hardrock mining activity and ensuring that the industry operates responsibly and transparently.

Our Values

  • Every community has the right to engage in public reviews as effectively as industry.

  • Mining must be environmentally, socially, and economically responsible.

  • Constant vigilance and participation are critical to protecting Colorado’s environment and ensuring that our regulatory systems work as intended.

  • Transparency, accountability, and community involvement are essential to a sustainable future.

Beautiful Nature

Looking Towards the Future

INFORM continues to lead efforts to strengthen mining oversight, reform outdated laws, and ensure reclamation of long-dormant and polluting sites. Building on our successful advocacy for stronger bonding and water protections under Colorado’s HB 19-1113, we now focus on ensuring these reforms are fully implemented. As new mining pressures emerge—including those tied to renewable energy minerals—we remain committed to advancing science-based policy, supporting community engagement, and safeguarding Colorado’s lands and waters for generations to come.
